More Cravings Nonsense That Makes Me Disagree
by Joan Kent, PhD

I’m on many email lists and get lots of stuff. Below is part of a short article on cravings for sugar and other junk that was in the newsletter of the Natural Health Sherpa.

I’ve taken the liberty of putting the points I disagree with most strongly in bold.

“Cravings. They’re the weak spot in all our lives. We can be diligent in our efforts to eat reasonably and exercise regularly… But those darn cravings for sweets and junk food never go away completely, do they? And they always strike when we’re feeling tired, stressed or in need of comfort… Which makes trying to rely on white-knuckle willpower to beat them an exercise in futility. What we need is something that can stop cravings… A weapon in our weight-loss arsenal that puts cravings in their place for good. Sound like a far-fetched, impossible dream?”

Far-Fetched? Impossible? Not At All!

Of course it absolutely does not sound like a far-fetched, impossible dream to get rid of cravings. And if you’re eating in a way that targets your brain chemistry and hormones for more optimal balance, cravings absolutely will go away. Completely. No white-knuckling needed.

I’ve written quite a few articles suggesting liquid vitamin B complex (all the Bs, not just one or two) for handling cravings on a short-term basis.

But I’ve also written that eliminating cravings — not “curbing” them, as the article says later on — takes changes in eating patterns.

So which would you prefer: to ‘curb’ cravings temporarily so they come back to sabotage you again and again?

Or to end cravings completely, so you can make empowered decisions about food, rather than giving in to cravings, compulsions, bad habits, and the like?

I vote for the second way.
